Treatments | - Weight bearing as tolerated with crutches
- Leg elevation
- Ice massage 10 to 15 minutes 3 to 10 times per day
- Cold pack or cold whirlpool 20 minutes
- Full thigh compression wrap
- Isometric contractions of 8 to 10 reps 3 to 5 times per day as tolerated
| - Ice or cold therapy 15 to 20 minutes 3 to 5 times per day
- Active flexion while supine and prone
- Low resistance cycling
- Restoration of normal weight bearing gait
- Discard crutches when >90 degrees knee flexion, no limp, pain free weight bearing gait

- Running
- Swimming
- Functional exercises
- Increase in activity intensity OR volume no more than 10% per week

Indications for advancing to next phase | - Pain free at rest
- Thigh girth no longer increasing
| - >120 degrees pain free active knee flexion
- Equal thigh girth
| - Full active range of motion
- Perform all activities pain-free
- Thigh pad with contact sports for next 3 to 6 months
