A PET scan projected in the coronal plane (A) shows a hypermetabolic mass (arrowhead) in the vastus lateralis muscle of the right thigh. The central portion of the mass has diminished FDG uptake. A 3D reconstruction of the head, chest, and abdomen (B) shows no evidence of metastatic disease. Normal accumulation of FDG is seen in the brain, heart, kidneys, and bladder.
3D: three dimensional; FDG: fluorodeoxyglucose; PET: positron emission tomography.
