¶ Cuba and Japan confirmed local transmission of Treponema pallidum subsp endemicum in genital ulcer cases in 2018 and 2019, respectively.
Δ India interrupted transmission in 2004 and declared elimination in 2006. Since 2004, no new cases have been reported. India was certified free of yaws by the World Health Organization (WHO) in May 2016.
◊ Malaysia reported a case of yaws in a 5-year-old boy of aboriginal descent from the "Batek" tribe in 2020.
