The thumb spica splint provides excellent immobilization for the thumb. It is often used for carpometacarpal osteoarthritis, de Quervain's tenosynovitis, ulnar collateral ligament injury (gamekeeper's or skier's thumb), and fractures of the scaphoid, trapezium, and first metacarpal.
