Herpes virus encephalitis on magnetic resonance imaging

T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging shows a swollen entire left temporal lobe as well as abnormal hyperintensity of cortex and white matter from edema (open arrow). In addition, there are similar but less extensive changes on the right (small arrow).
