Potential spaces for abscess formation in the hand

There are two potential spaces on the dorsum of the hand and three potential spaces on the palmar aspect of the hand. The dorsal spaces are the dorsal subcutaneous space and the dorsal subaponeurotic space. The three potential palmar spaces are the thenar space, the midpalmar space, and the hypothenar space.
