Parasternal long axis echocardiogram in a patient with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

The parasternal long-axis view from a two-dimensional echocardiogram in a patient with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy shows significant hypertrophy of the interventricular septum (IVS) as well as the posterior left ventricular wall (PWLV); the echo-free space behind the posterior wall is a pericardial effusion (PE).
