Maximum workload progressively decreases at higher altitudes

Maximum workload progressively decreases at higher altitudes
The mean reduction in maximal workload, expressed as percentage decreases from baseline, is shown at various simulated altitudes. The reduction in workload at altitude in those with stable heart failure is generally in proportion to the limitation in workload of healthy people at altitude, but greater in those who have severely impaired capacity due to heart failure.
Data from Agostoni, P, Cattadori, G, Guazzi, M, et al. Effects of Simulated altitude-induced hypoxia on exercise capacity in patients with chronic heart failure. Am J Med 2000; 109:450.
