Classic prenatal ultrasound images of gastroschisis

These images are taken at the level of the abdominal cord insertion site. The cord insertion appears normal; echolucent vessels can be seen entering the abdominal cavity. The abdominal wall defect is adjacent to the cord insertion site: there is loss of continuity of the abdominal skin line where the bowel protrudes through the abdominal wall defect.
