Anatomic landmarks for direct laryngoscopy.
(A) After initial retraction of the tongue with a straight blade, the epiglottis may remain draped posteriorly, partially or completely covering the glottic opening.
(B) Retraction of the epiglottis with the tip of the straight blade allows visualization of the glottis and surrounding structures.
