Computed tomography scan of the brain of a four-week-old infant with central nervous system (CNS) herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection

Computed tomography scan of the brain of a four-week-old infant with advanced destructive lesions of the brain associated with neonatal HSV infection of CNS. Infant presented with a one-week history of fever, seizures, and poor feeding. Cerebrospinal fluid showed mononuclear pleocytosis and elevated protein, and HSV DNA was detected by molecular polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay.
