Internal hernias

Internal hernias have been described in up to 5% of patients undergoing laparoscopic bariatric surgery. Hernias through the transverse mesocolon are the most common and require operative treatment. The arrows show the common areas of herniation. To reduce the incidence of internal hernias, all areas of potential herniation should be closed.
