Lentigo maligna

Atypical melanocytes grow largely at the dermal-epidermal interface (straight arrow), with extension down the external root sheath of follicles (curved arrow). Upward growth of melanocytes is much less prominent than in intraepidermal malignant melanoma of the superficial spreading type.
