Intracapsular versus extracapsular hip fractures

Intracapsular versus extracapsular hip fractures
The prognosis of hip fractures varies by anatomic location. Intracapsular fractures are more likely to disrupt the blood supply to the femoral head, thereby increasing the risk of avascular necrosis, compared with extracapsular (or intertrochanteric) fractures. Femoral neck stress fractures are typically intracapsular.
