Increased risk of hypoglycemia with strict glycemic control

In the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT), there was a progressive increase in the incidence of severe hypoglycemic episodes (per 100 patient-years) at lower attained A1C values during intensive insulin therapy in patients with type 1 diabetes.
