Calcitonin prevents osteoporosis

Mean change in lumbar bone mineral content in 39 postmenopausal patients treated for 2 years with intranasal salmon calcitonin or placebo. Bone mineral content was stable with calcitonin but fell in the placebo group (p<0.001 at 2 years).
