In one randomized trial comparing robotic ventral hernia repair with laparoscopic repair, hernia meshes were secured with 2-0 dolphin stitches in a double-crown fixation. By contrast, in the PROVE-IT trial, meshes were fixed with 3-0 baseball sutures in a single-crown fashion. It is not known if this difference contributed to the divergent outcomes of the two trials.
