Chiari type I malformation

(A) A normal brain and spinal cord.

(B) Chiari type I malformation ("CM-I"). In CM-I, part of the "cerebellum," which is the lower back part of the brain, bulges through the hole at the bottom of the skull (arrow). Normally, only the spinal cord passes through this hole.
