Antithrombotic regimen in adults with acute or subacute renal infarction

Antithrombotic regimen in adults with acute or subacute renal infarction
Patients without symptoms or who have an atrophic kidney and/or a wedge-shaped scar on imaging have a remote infarction rather than an acute or subacute renal infarction. Refer to UpToDate content on renal infarction for management of such patients.

* In the absence of a preexisting diagnosis or vascular abnormality (eg, dissection), patients with renal infarction should undergo an evaluation for thromboembolic risk factors, such as atrial fibrillation or a hypercoagulable state. Refer to UpToDate content on renal infarction for details.

¶ For guidance choosing an anticoagulant in patients without an identified thromboembolic risk factor, refer to UpToDate content on renal infarction.

Δ Low-dose aspirin is typically 81 mg once daily, but depending on country, the dose may range from 75 to 100 mg once daily.
