Primary care management of hallux valgus (bunion)

This algorithm summarizes our suggested approach to management of painful hallux valgus (bunion).

* Obtain two weightbearing views, including a dorsoplantar (DP) and an axial view to assist with surgical evaluation.

¶ Both orthopedic and podiatric specialist foot surgeons, as well as nonspecialist surgeons, perform operations for hallux valgus deformity repair.

Δ These measures may be employed concurrently. If effective, conservative management is continued indefinitely.
