The EDLIPS is obtained by summing points for the above conditions and factors. A patient with an EDLIPS <5 points can be considered not at high risk (negative likelihood ratio 0.39) for development of acute respiratory distress syndrome.

BMI: body mass index; FiO2: fraction of inspired oxygen; SpO2: oxygen saturation.

* Emergency department patient requiring admission for one of these surgeries.
