Heart rate ≥100 beats per minute (1 point)

Arterial oxygen saturation less than 95% (1 point)

Swelling of a single leg (1 point)

Hemoptysis (1 point)

History of recent surgery or trauma (1 point)

History of venous thromboembolic disease: DVT or pulmonary embolism (1 point)

Use of estrogen hormone (1 point)

  • The PERC rule is only valid in patients with a low clinical probability of pulmonary embolism (clinician’s gestalt estimate <15%).
  • PERC: Pulmonary Embolism Rule-out Criteria; DVT: deep vein thrombosis.
