Dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumor

Dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumor

(Panels A-C) 27-year-old presenting with focal seizures with altered awareness. Transverse axial (A) and coronal (B) T2-weighted MRIs show a well-circumscribed, CSF-isointense lesion in the cortex of the left occipitotemporal (fusiform) gyrus (arrowheads). On the parasagittal T1-weighted image (C), the tumor is isointense with simple fluid (eg, vitreous humor in the left globe). Pathology confirmed a dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumor (DNET).

(Panels D-F) 49-year-old presenting with "spells" typified by a strange sensation in chest and abdomen, flashbacks, and severe sweats, lasting between 5 and 35 seconds. Transverse axial T2-weighted MRI (D) shows a well demarcated, "bubbly" cortical lesion in the left ventromesial temporal lobe (arrow) with minimal mass effect and no surrounding edema. No contrast enhancement is evident based on pre- (E) and postcontrast (F) T1-weighted images (arrows). Pathology confirmed DNET.
MRI: magnetic resonance imaging; CSF: cerebrospinal fluid.
