Neuroimaging features of intradural melanotic schwannoma

Neuroimaging features of intradural melanotic schwannoma
Fifty-seven-year-old with neck pain. (A) Sagittal and (B) transverse axial T1-weighted, (C) sagittal T2-weighted, and (D) postcontrast, fat-saturated T1-weighted MRIs demonstrate a T1-hyperintense, T2-hypointense, and nonenhancing intradural and extramedullary lesion (arrows) arising from the right C1 nerve root. Melanin is paramagnetic, which explains short T1 and T2 relaxation times of this melanotic schwannoma.
MRI: magnetic resonance imaging.
