This scale provides some utility in differentiating the degree of vascular injury. In isolation, grade III arterial injuries do not put a limb at risk of loss; however, grade IV/V injuries do.

AAST: American Association for the Surgery of Trauma.

* Increase one grade for multiple grade III or IV injuries involving >50% vessel circumference. Decrease one grade for <25% vessel circumference disruption for grades IV or V.
