Surgical classification of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension

Surgical classification of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension
Level Location of thromboembolic disease
I (C) Disease-origin at level of main pulmonary arteries resulting in partial or complete (c) occlusion of one lung
II Disease-origin at level of lobar or intermediate pulmonary arteries
III Disease-origin at level of segmental arteries
IV Disease origin at level of subsegmental branches
Surgical classification of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension by anatomical location. The University of California San Diego (UCSD) classification has been proposed[1] to address distal disease and long-term outcomes. Levels correlate with anatomical location and degree of surgical complexity, where higher levels represent more difficult resections.
