Treatment of generalized granuloma annulare

Treatment of generalized granuloma annulare
Adjunctive local therapy with intralesional corticosteroid injections, a high-potency topical corticosteroid, or a topical calcineurin inhibitor can be helpful for select lesions.
NBUVB: narrowband ultraviolet B; GA: granuloma annulare; PUVA: psoralen plus ultraviolet A photochemotherapy; UVA1: ultraviolet A1.
* GA is a benign condition that may spontaneously resolve within a few years.
¶ Efficacy data for therapies are limited, and the relative efficacy of individual therapies for GA is unclear. Treatment selection is based upon consideration of patient comorbidities and patient preference. We typically prescribe hydroxychloroquine for initial treatment because the drug is easily administered and generally well tolerated.
Δ Refer to additional UpToDate content on the management of GA for additional options for therapy.
