Initiating breastfeeding with skin-to-skin contact after birth
The laid-back breastfeeding position facilitates the natural breastfeeding behaviors with the full-body skin-to-skin contact between the mother and baby. It promotes a strong letdown of breast milk from the mother and allows the baby to have more control over the milk flow. A healthy newborn is able to locate the breast when held in this position, using natural instincts and innate reflexes to find and attach to the breast (often called "the breast crawl").
