Complicated febrile episode in a child with non-chemotherapy-induced neutropenia
Complicated febrile episode in a child with non-chemotherapy-induced neutropenia is defined by one or more of the following associated findings:
  • Hemodynamic instability
  • Gastrointestinal symptoms:
    • Abdominal pain
    • Nausea
    • Vomiting
    • Diarrhea
  • New-onset neurologic signs or mental status changes
  • Intravascular catheter infection (especially catheter tunnel infection)
  • Underlying chronic lung disease
  • New pulmonary infiltrate or hypoxemia
  • Skin or soft tissue infection at any site
  • Sinus tenderness or other findings of upper respiratory tract infection
