Diagnostic evaluation of incidental solid liver lesions

Diagnostic evaluation of incidental solid liver lesions
Refer to UpToDate content on the approach to patients with incidental solid liver lesions.

CT: computed tomography; HBV: hepatitis B virus; MRI: magnetic resonance imaging.

* Most benign, solid liver lesions that are detected incidentally can be diagnosed with contrast-enhanced, cross-sectional imaging (eg, hepatic hemangioma, hepatocellular adenoma, focal nodular hyperplasia).

¶ For incidental solid liver lesions that cannot be characterized with contrast-enhanced imaging, surveillance imaging may be performed to detect lesion growth, changes in lesion appearance, and the development of new lesions. Surveillance intervals are individualized, but generally range from 6 to 12 months.
