Tissue changes after neck radiotherapy

Tissue changes after neck radiotherapy
(A) Neck fibrosis with significant subcutaneous tissue and muscle atrophy five years after neck radiotherapy.
(B) Diffuse tissue atrophy and fibrosis of the larynx after radiotherapy. The cuneiform and corniculate tubercles have vanished (oval). Tissue atrophy has enlarged and deepened the pyriform sinus, which harbors copious secretions (thick arrow). The angulated laryngeal inlet is narrow and rigid (thin arrows), resulting in difficult intubation.
(C) Significant tissue edema four months after neck radiotherapy. The epiglottis is markedly thickened.
