While keeping a firm grip on the tracheal tube so it is not dislodged, remove the tracheal tube introducer (bougie) and then restore oxygenation and ventilation. Once this is done, proper placement is confirmed and the tracheal tube is secured. These are the final steps of the scalpel-finger-bougie technique of cricothyrotomy.
