DERS for smart pumps use data that is entered into the smart pump for each drug in a site-specific medication library. These are within the normal therapeutic range for that medication and that specific patient (eg, patient weight). Soft limits permit the caregiver to enter a dose that exceeds or is less than the usual therapeutic range. Hard limits will not permit the caregiver to exceed upper or lower preset limits.
