Sickle SCAN point-of-care test for detection of hemoglobin S and hemoglobin C

Sickle SCAN point-of-care test for detection of hemoglobin S and hemoglobin C
(Panel A) Steps in testing. A blood sample (approximately 5 microL) is taken from a finger prick or a previously collected sample, added to a prefilled buffer solution, mixed, five drops (after discarding the first three drops) applied to the test strip cartridge (at the spot indicated "S"), and allowed to migrate by lateral flow. The result is scored after five minutes.
(Panel B) Test results for common hemoglobin patterns. A band indicates the presence of the hemoglobin listed. A band must be present at the final control (labeled "Ctrl") for the test to be valid.
SCD: sickle cell disease; POC: point-of-care; Ctrl: control; Hb: hemoglobin.
