Follow-up of placenta previa or low-lying placenta on routine 18- to 22-week ultrasound examination

The above algorithm applies to asymptomatic women. Emergency cesarean delivery is indicated for women with placenta previa and active labor, severe and persistent vaginal bleeding such that the maternal hemodynamic stability cannot be achieved or maintained, or vaginal bleeding after 34 weeks of gestation.
