Autoimmune hemolytic anemia may occur in an otherwise healthy individual or in the setting of a predisposing condition. Any form of hemolytic anemia can lead to an underestimation of the hemoglobin A1C (HbA1C). Refer to UpToDate for details of the evaluation and treatment.
CVID: common variable immunodeficiency; HIV: human immunodeficiency virus; CLL: chronic lymphocytic leukemia; NHL: non-Hodgkin lymphoma; MM: multiple myeloma; LGL: large granular lymphocyte; SLE: systemic lupus erythematosus; ALPS: autoimmune lymphoproliferative syndrome; EBV: Epstein-Barr virus; AIHA: autoimmune hemolytic anemia.
* Many drugs have been associated with AIHA; refer to separate table in UpToDate for an extensive list.
