Osteoarthritis and CPPD

Osteoarthritis and CPPD
Radiograph of the right hand demonstrating features of osteoarthritis (OA) and calcium pyrophosphate deposition (CPPD). There is joint space loss suggesting underlying cartilage loss, osteophytosis, and bony remodeling at all finger distal interphalangeal (DIP) joints and radial deviation of third, fourth, and fifth finger DIP joints; joint space narrowing, osteophytosis, and cysts at the second metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint; and thumb-base OA (mainly narrowing and sclerosis of first carpometacarpal [CMC] and scapho-trapezoid joints). There is also scapho-lunate dissociation (which is reported to associate with CPPD [thick arrow]) and chondrocalcinosis in the region of triangular fibrocartilage complex (arrow).
