Rectus sheath block ultrasound

For the rectus sheath block, local anesthetic is injected between the rectus muscle body and the posterior rectus sheath. If the block is performed at the upper, more cephalad third of the rectus muscle, the transversus abdominis muscle extends under the rectus muscle, and provides a buffer of safety between the needle target and the peritoneum.
