Abdominal radiograph for leaded foreign bodies or flecks in the GI tract

Free erythrocyte protoporphyrin (if not already obtained)

Serum electrolytes

Blood urea nitrogen

Serum creatinine

Serum calcium

Serum magnesium

Serum aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase

Urinalysis

Neuroimaging (eg, computed tomography of the brain) in patients with encephalopathy

Screening for G6PD deficiency (eg, fluorescent spot test or methemoglobin reduction test)*

GI: gastrointestinal; G6PD: glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase.
* Indicated for patients of an ethnicity with high prevalence for the disease (eg, African-American or Mediterranean descent) who are receiving dimercaprol. However, chelation should not be delayed while awaiting results.
