Nutrition support protocol in burn patients

TBSA: total body surface area; TENS: toxic epidermal necrolysis syndrome; SJS: Stevens-Johnson syndrome; FT: feeding tube (nasoenteral, nasogastric).
* Indirect calorimetry performed every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
¶ If patient has emesis/abdominal pain, hold tube feeds and notify physician. Ongoing assessment of nutritional goals. Other nutritional supplementation (eg, protein shakes) may be needed to meet nutritional goals.
