REBOA deployment zone I

The figure shows deployment of an aortic occlusion balloon in zone I. The REBOA catheter (blue) is placed through an access sheath (white). One type of catheter has an atraumatic pigtail tip allowing it to be guided into the aorta without the need for guidewire. If this particular device is not available, any compliant aortic occlusion balloon can be inserted using the standard over-the-wire techniques. The balloon may be immediately inflated if ongoing hemorrhage is a concern, or left in place deflated and inflated only if needed.
