Results

Important: Inputs must be complete to perform calculation.

Standard weight
Weight deviation points
Absolute hematocrit deviation
CDAI

CDAI interpretation

0 to 149 points: Asymptomatic remission
150 to 220 points: Mildly to moderately active Crohn disease
221 to 450 points: Moderately to severely active Crohn disease
451 to 1100 points: Severely active to fulminant disease

Notes
  • Patients requiring glucocorticoids to remain asymptomatic are not considered to be in remission but are referred to as being "glucocorticoid dependent."
  • Absolute deviation of hematocrit is simply the difference in hematocrit from standard. As an example, a male patient with a hematocrit of 40% has an absolute deviation of 7.
  • Percent deviation from standard weight is (1 - weight/standard weight) * 100; thus, positive percent deviation represents weight loss, adding points to the CDAI.
  • Please refer to UpToDate topic reviews on management of Crohn disease for further information.
  • Standard weight is calculated as follows:

    Standard weight for males (kg) = (height in m)2 x 22.1 (kg/m2)
    Standard weight for females (kg) = (height in m)2 x 20.8 (kg/m2)

Equations used

Standard weight = (1 if the following expression is true, 0 if false)(Sex == 0) * ((Height/100)2 * 20.8) + (1 if the following expression is true, 0 if false)(Sex == 1) * ((Height/100)2 * 22.1)
Weight deviation points = 100 * (1 - (Weight / Standard weight))
Absolute hematocrit deviation = (1 if the following expression is true, 0 if false)(Sex == 0) * (42 - Hematocrit) + (1 if the following expression is true, 0 if false)(Sex == 1) * (47 - Hematocrit)
Stool count factor = Average number of liquid or soft stools per day over 7 days (14 points per stool) * 14
CDAI = Stool count factor + Using diphenoxylate or loperamide for diarrhea + Average abdominal pain rating over 7 days + General wellbeing each day over 7 days + Arthritis or arthralgia + Iritis or uveitis + Erythema nodosum, pyoderma gangrenosum, or aphthous stomatitis + Anal fissure, fistula, or abscess + Other fistula + Temperature over 100°F (37.8°C) in the last week + Finding of an abdominal mass + Weight deviation points + (6 * Absolute hematocrit deviation)

Equation parameters, such as Sex, have 2 or more discrete values that may be used in the calculation. The numbers in the parentheses, eg, (0), represent the values that will be used.

Only digits 0 to 9 and a single decimal point (".") are acceptable as numeric inputs. Attempted input of other characters into a numeric field may lead to an incorrect result.
