Notes
  • The constant k is directly proportional to the muscle component of body and varies with age. The estimated GFR also depends on the laboratory assay used to measure serum creatinine.[1]
  • When serum creatinine is measured by Jaffe method and the measurement is expressed as mg/dL, the value for k is 0.33 in premature infants through the first year of life, 0.45 for term infants through the first year of life, 0.55 in children and adolescent girls, and 0.7 in adolescent boys. When the measurement is expressed as mcmol/L, the value for k is 29.2 in premature infants through the first year of life, 39.8 for term infants through the first year of life, 48.6 in children and adolescent girls, and 61.9 in adolescent boys.
  • When serum creatinine is determined using enzymatic methodology expressed as mg/dL,[2] the value for k is 0.413 for all children with CKD between ages 1 and 16 years. When the measurement is expressed as mcmol/L, the value for k is 36.5.
  • GFR: glomerular filtration rate; CKD: chronic kidney disease.

Equations used

Glomerular_filtration_rate = k * Height / Serum_creatinine

Only digits 0 to 9 and a single decimal point (".") are acceptable as numeric inputs. Attempted input of other characters into a numeric field may lead to an incorrect result.
